Blood Moon

Another way too hot day here although they keep insisting it’s only in the 30’s.  Today we were back on the sweat trains for a ride to Baker Street and a visit to Regent’s Park.  Most of our time there was spent in Queen Mary’s Rose Garden where I’ve wanted to take Nancy ever since I first saw it.  It’s a little late in the summer for roses and many where already pruned, but there were still some roses and quite a few other flowers to see.

Braden had made a reservation for afternoon tea at the Langham hotel so we walked about 15 minutes from the park, arriving hot and sweaty.  The tea room was slighty air-conditioned and by the end we had cooled down.

We had a serving of tea followed by sandwiches, then deserts, then scones and cake.  All of it was very good.  The kids had sandwiches cut in jigsaw puzzle pieces and received teddy bears and chef hats.

Leaving the Langham and back into the heat we walked to the British Museum.  One of the things we saw while walking today was a construction site with three trailers raised and attached to the side of the building.

The British Museum turned out to be a five story sauna dedicated to the collection of heat.  It did appear to have exhibits hidden behind a swarm of other tourists just as sweaty as us.  At this point Nancy and I left for home with Nathan.  From what we hear, Emily is in heaven touring the building.  Several hours later she and her parents are still not back.  Nancy and I especially enjoyed our ride on the London Overground air conditioned train on the way back.

There have been a couple of thundershowers now and the heat wave appears to be over.  Now they are calling for rainstorms with wind gusts up to 50 mph on Saturday, and 60 on Sunday.

Later – The Robinsons have returned.  After the British Museum, they went to the Wellcome Center and then Kings Cross where Harry Potter arrives at platform 9 3/4.

The reason this post is called blood moon is because I expected to post some photos of the total eclipse of the moon which was visible to everyone in Britain tonight.  Unfortunately in London it was only visible to people above the clouds.
