A Visit to Sir Paul

First thing this morning I took a walk to check out the rumors I’ve heard that Charles Babbage has died.  After a visit to Kensal Green Cemetery, I can confirm that the rumors are true.  Babbage apparently died of renal inadequacy, secondary to cystitis in 1871.  Here is a picture of his grave.

This was an important man, considered by some to be a father of the computer.  Without him we might not be able to blog about our vacations, or watch cat videos on youtube.  As important as he was, there are many other people buried in Kensal Green who must have contributed even more to the world.  Look at these monuments.

Next stop was a visit to the Gardens of the Carmelite Monastery in Notting Hill.  If was about a 20 minute walk to get there and another 20 minutesof walking around the block trying to find a gate in the wall.  These gardens must not be open to the public.

Next on the agenda was a visit to the Lords Cricket Grounds which was about a one hour walk.  England and India will be playing there later this week and I was hoping to see something going on.

On the walk, Google sent me a block from Abbey Road.  I hadn’t planned on going there again but a block away was too tempting

Drivers are usually patient as people walk into the street and stop to pose for pictures.

It looks like the London Symphony Orchestra is recording at Abbey Road today.

As I continued toward the cricket grounds,  google told me to turn right on Cavendish Avenue.  I recognized that as the road Paul McCartney lives on. 7 Cavendish Avenue.  Here’s the Current Value

If you try to use google maps street view to see this house, you’ll see that you can “drive” down the street to about 5 Cavendish and then get skipped further up the road to 11 Cavendish.  Google has censored the area showing McCartney’s house.

The open gate is the neighbor’s yard

Once I got to the cricket grounds, I found that like the Monastery Gardens, they are walled in and not visible to the public. Headed back from there with a stop at the Paddington Recreation Ground.

During my walk I crossed the canal at Little Venice.  Would anyone care for a swim?

Other pictures from the walk

Nancy went grocery shopping and walked a couple miles in London by herself.  This evening it cooled down some (high temperature today was 26 litres) and we were able to eat dinner on our deck.

While taking this picture I realized we can see the Grenfell Tower where there was a tragic fire last year with huge loss of life

It’s the building wrapped in green.  We passed it the other day on the train.  It’s totally wrapped with a green wrapper at the top saying “Grenfel – Always In Our Hearts”  It’s still standing because it’s too unstable to even try to demolish.
